CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON - DECEMBER 2013

E-mail Print PDF

The 2013 Christmas celebration was well attended by members of the media, village Headmen, the Director of City Clothing Factory who is a keen sponsor of the Christmas celebration at Nyamphande, the District Commissioner of Runfusa District with his entourage, Women for Word Ministry, Board Members and the Acting Director for Nyamphande as well as Chikondi Foundation.

The Founding President – Bishop Mambo    Bishop Mambo with Director City clothing      Delegates among them Mrs. Bulawayo (B.M)

Women of the word Ministry had traveled a day earlier to Minister to the Community and to give a hand in the preparation of the Christmas luncheon. Children from the surrounding communities could be seen in the early hours of the morning making their way to the Orphanage. Most children who are boarders at the school usually wait for the Christmas luncheon before they go back to their homes; most of these children are from the capital (Lusaka) plus the surrounding communities and enjoy the Christmas spirit demonstrated yearly by Nyamphande, and they make a point of attending these Christmas events.

Christmas 2013 we witnessed long queues and fighting among the children to be first on the line. Most Children where excited by the expectation of gifts and could not contain themselves, as they recollected the 2012 Christmas experience where they were given lots of toys and dollies which were donated by Children of the world in Netherlands (Bart Moman). A lot of them did get toys and a few where left out in 2012 on the gifts, some even resorted to grabbing the dollies and toys from smaller kids which left a lot of wailing amid the small children.

The ceremony was opened with a prayer from Woman of the word Ministry and a speech from the Acting Headmaster Mr. Bwalya. The Founding President Bishop John H. Mambo who was very happy with the attendance also expressed concerns with the attitudes some of the school is taking on making money off poor people instead of educating them. He said the trend of buying uniforms from companies which were being sold at a reasonable price and later on selling them for a profit to the poor was not a good practice. He also thanked members of the public and other donors for making Nyamphande Christmas a day for those who are hurting to know that they have people who care.

Reverend Bulawayo who is Nyamphande Board Members also encouraged the children on the importance of education. She told members of the community not to be encouraging early marriages among children in the communities as this only leads to poverty in the community. She told the community not to leave girls behind as it was very important to educate a girl child and she was a living example of those girls who went to school and now standing up for themselves and taking care of their families.

Nyamphande being in a new district was also honored by the presence of the District Commissioner who has taken pride in the institution as it stands to be the only high school in the new district. He promised his continued support towards the institution and was grateful in the knowledge that once fully completed it will alleviate most of the problems that the district is facing in terms of school places. The District Commissioner also went a step further by pledging monetary support towards the classroom blocks.

City clothing Director who is a profound supported of the project also pledged to contribute to the class room blocks being built at the high school. It was encouraging seeing the Director attending celebration again and he had also brought his son along so that he could see what the other kids are going through.
