Our Community Schools Projects

E-mail Print PDF

Bishop John Mambo started the school as a result of the crisis in the area, where their was no school and clinic. Many kids remain orphans as a result of HIV/ AIDS. We moved in the spirit of the word of God according to the book of Acts. True religion is to look after orphans and widows.

Chief Mpanshya provided the land on which to build a school. During the intervening years, our school has grown to include nearly 800 students. Approximately 700 attend grades 1 – 8 at our original location while the others, in grades 9 – 12, attend schools throughout the district.

All their expenses including school fees, text books, lodging, food, clothes and transport are met out of the funds Nyamphande receives from its donors and supporters.

Also in response to the devastation of the HIV/AIDS pandemic Bishop Mambo established an orphanage at the school site in 1996. It shelters and nurtures approximately 10% of our children who are either doubling orphaned or otherwise extremely vulnerable. Their meals, three a day per resident and at least one meal for the day students, are prepared in the school kitchen. The dining area accommodates 250 people and also serves as a study hall for resident students and a place for community members to meet and discuss issues of mutual concern.

Despite the relatively large number of students, Nyamphande has only six classrooms. There are fourteen dedicated volunteer teachers who must rotate turns in each classroom during the school day, commencing at 6:30 in the morning. This ensures that every child who comes to school is taught as well as possible despite the shortage of dedicated classrooms and the general lack of textbooks and classroom supplies
